Hank Jozwiak

Henry Thomas Jozwiak, Jr., affectionately known as Hank, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, at his home in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Born on June 3, 1952, in Evanston, Hank lived an extraordinary life filled with an undeniable love for his family, lasting friendships with people from many walks of life and he had an undeniable gift to gab! 😁 (Sorry Dad, but you know I'm right!) His family and friends remember him as a man of integrity, a man who was generous, loyal and believed that a simple kindness afforded another had the ability to change a life. He stood up to the bully and protected the weak. He believed that family, love, friendships, relationships and memories held more value than anything money could ever buy. He was large and in charge, had a vibrant personality a colorful vocabulary and was rough around the edges, but always honest, trustworthy and a man of his word. He always said that it was important to keep your word, because if you don't have your word, you have nothing. He was a blessing to all those that knew and loved him. Hank was the beloved son of the late Eleanor M. Jozwiak, loving brother to Jay (Robin) Jozwiak and Darlene. He fell in love with and married Susan Garcia Jozwiak and was blessed with five children: Jeanette M. Jozwiak, Kristina M. Hansen (Jozwiak), Peter Jozwiak, Janet K. Jozwiak (Fiancé': Marshall), and was preceded in death by his beloved son, Thomas Joseph (TJ) Jozwiak and his brother, Mike Jozwiak, both of whom he missed very much. Hank was a proud grandpa to Joshua Ireland, Luke Hansen and Wyatt Hansen and crazy uncle to many nieces and nephews. Hank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked hard to support his family and considered his family his greatest life accomplishment. He was a selfless man who put the needs of others before his own, he was a pillar of strength and a beacon of love, setting an example for his children and grandchildren to follow. In his earlier years, he owned a gas station and enjoyed working on and racing cars. He enlisted in the United States Navy and was a proud Patriot who served his country fighting in the Vietnam War. When Hank returned home, he was hired as a bus driver for Nortran which later became Pace driving for them for just over 35 years. He was a proud recipient of the One Million Miler and Two Million Miler awards. He was elected President of Amalgamated Transit Union local 1028 for over 30 years, recruiting and organizing several regional transit union branches. He negotiated numerous union contracts, represented and fought for union workers rights and protections. He had a keen interest in local politics and worked on campaigns supporting various candidates for local and state positions. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, boating and spending time outdoors. He loved playing cards and craps and enjoyed spending time at the casinos and riverboats. He could talk to anyone, liked to meet new people and was quite the social butterfly. His laugh, sense of humor and love for life was infectious and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Hank's life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and selflessness. His unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and his selfless nature were the hallmarks of his life. He will be remembered as a loving father, a devoted husband, and a proud grandfather who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Though Hank has left us in body, his spirit lives on in his children, grandchildren and everyone whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on, cherished and celebrated by all who knew and loved him. The legacy of love and dedication he leaves behind will continue to inspire and guide his family for generations to come. As we mourn the loss of Hank, we also celebrate his life, cherishing the memories we shared and the love he gave us. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to live on in each of us, guiding us with his love and wisdom. Hank's life was a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and friendship, and he will forever remain in our hearts.
