Ricky Barcenas

Our community lost a great young man in Ricky Barcenas, 17, of Arlington Heights on May 17, 2023. He was born on February 16, 2006 to Jovany Barcenas and Brenda Lorenzo in Arlington Heights. He attended Buffalo Grove High School, a junior with a 3.8 GPA. Ricky was going to pursue his dreams in Architectural Engineering. Ricky is survived by Mother, Brenda Lorenzo; Father, Jovany Barcenas; Siblings, Adrian Barcenas and Angel Perez; Grandparents Maria Pano and Alfonso Lorenzo; Aunts Jeimi Lorenzo, Miriam Lorenzo, and Maria Magali Lorenzo; Uncles Alfonso Lorenzo, and Reyes Lorenzo; numerous cousins and friends also survive. He was an avid Soccer player and fan, especially of the Barcelona team. Ricky worked at Portillo’s and his co workers admired his fun loving work ethic. He was always making those around him smile and laugh. Visitation will be held on Saturday May 20, 2023 from 2pm until 6pm at Matz Funeral Chapel at 410 E. Rand Road Mount Prospect, IL 60056. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday May 22, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Shrine of Our Lady Guadalupe at 1170 N River Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60016. My life may have been short, but it was Full of joy, love, life, and! want to be remembered as a bright light that despite its short days, [always had a desire to make a difference in the lives of those around me, despite life's obstacle, I would like to leave the reminder that we must listen to and follow the right people, and that we cannot depend on anybody for success - we must make our own opportunities. My biggest message to all of you is that we should never challenge life unwisely, but instead, listen and follow the laws and rules, for the consequences of disregarding them can be life-changing for one and for others. Most importantly, don't leave good messages for tomorrow. If you love somebody, tell them today. My legacy will be a reflection of my love for my family, the cultural wealth I derived from my Latino identity, and the wisdom and respect I developed for the people I encountered during my life. I strived to create my own opportunities, instead of waiting, relying, and depending on others. If people remember and heed the message I have left behind, then my life was not lived in vain, and I was here for a reason, I hope that my legacy of loving my family, celebrating my Latino identity and culture, and striving to create my own opportunities will continue to inspire others in their lives.
