January 29, 1933 - April 21, 2018
Kathleen Hoelzer Behrend was born on January 29th, 1933 in Chicago, IL. Kathleen spent her entire childhood and life in the Chicago area (Northsider) and discovered she had a great talent for art at an early age. Kathleen was so talented, she was chosen for a full ride scholarship at the Art Institute of Chicago - one of our nations top art schools. She was extremely creative and saw the world through an artists lens. She left the Art Institute to help support her family and worked as a layout artist designing catalog advertising for Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, Spiegel, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Montgomery Ward department stores as well as work for television ads. She was an accomplished skier and loved yachting. She was a member of the Chicago Columbia Yacht Club in 1959-1960. Kathleen was married to Walter D. Burr III in 1961 and was married for over 25 years having two sons, John and David. They bought a house in Wilmette, IL. in 1971 where they raised their family. Kathleen continued her commercial art-work, but was also accomplished privately. She worked on mediums including oils, watercolors, charcoals and sculpture. Her private works are cherished by those close to her. Kathleen also completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree at Barat College in Lake Forest, IL at the age of 60. She was a good and loving mother to her sons John and David. And popular with their friends too. No sacrifice was too great for her family or children. Later, she remarried to Herbert Behrend who she deeply loved and they had 17 years together touring the country and travelling abroad before Herb passed. Kathleen was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren and encouraged their creative sides. Kathleen leaves behind two sons and 6 grandchildren (two girls and four boys). And one doggie she loved very-very much. She was deeply loved and had a personality people gravitated toward. She is loved always.
