Robert “Bob” D. Coté passed away peacefully in hospice care in Des Plaines, Illinois on June 20, 2022, continually surrounded by family and friends. Caring husband of 41 years to the late Josephine (Ruggiero) Coté. Loving father of Pamela Coté-Ackert. Dear grandfather of Zachary Robert Ackert. Brother of Edward (Bonnie) Coté and the late Kenneth (Helen) Coté of Manistee, MI. Beloved uncle to Amanda (Steven) O’Rorke, Candance Coté, Amelia Coté and Sarra Neri. Great uncle to Ophelia and Oliver Neri. Cousin to Jim and Bill Ellefson. Giving stepfather to John (Shirley) Ligurotis. Friend, neighbor and fishing buddy to many. Bob was born to Lila (Ellefson) and Nazer Coté of Manistee, MI on July 25, 1939. He was their middle son. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and being outdoors as he grew up in Manistee on the shores of Lake Michigan. He started working as a paper boy and picking at the local farms in the Manistee and Onekama areas. He graduated from Manistee High School in 1957. Bob joined the Navy right after high school, where he worked in the scullery and then as an Aerial Photographer. After three years in the Navy, Bob traveled to Chicago, Illinois where he started his career in media. He started in broadcast traffic and advanced to Media Buyer. After years in the industry and showing his creative flair, he was promoted to Media Director. Bob worked for many advertising agencies such as, Darcy, Earle Ludgin, Young & Rubicam, Ranke, Myers and Finn Advertising and Frank C. Nacer Advertising. Some of the ads that Bob was a pioneer in constructing are: Armour Cold Meats, International Harvester, Charmglow, Dodge, CNA Insurance, Chicago Sun Times, Jewel Food Accounts and Maxwell House Coffee. Working closely with account executives and the media during his career, Bob had many interesting opportunities to travel, attend sports events, and meet many famous people. After retiring at the age of 55, he branched out on his own in media marketing and did freelance work for Sal Grasso Advertising in Milwaukee, WI. The internet was just becoming popular, and Bob learned how to build websites. Waukesha Electric was his first project. He later built and maintained a web page for Rough Rock Fishing Lodge in Canada. During his free time, he was an avid fisherman with muskies being his favorite to fish. Bob traveled to Canada to fish, and would also fish on many lakes in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. His favorite place to fish was Lake of the Woods, Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada. Throughout the years, Bob owned numerous boats that he would take out with his fishing buddies and brother to catch “the big one”! During his long life, Bob had the opportunity to travel to Mallorca, Spain, Aruba, Canada, and many states in the USA. In his later years, Bob enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, traveling to Wisconsin and Michigan with his daughter and grandson, shopping for the best price on designer clothes, dining at different restaurants, and visiting with family and friends. He was sociable, easy going, thoughtful and accepting of others. Having a positive outlook on life, Bob took chances that others wouldn’t. Bob will be missed by all for his quick witted sense of humor and his ability to make everyone feel at ease. Visitation will be at 10:30 to 1:00 pm with an Armed Forces and Memorial Service to follow on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Riverwoods Funeral Chapels in Des Plaines, Illinois.
