Alice Cepuran

Alice R. Cepuran, (nee Kobza), age 96 of Des Plaines, IL passed away on October 7, 2024 after a 10 year fight with Alzheimer’s. Born in Chicago, IL on October 27, 1927, she graduated from Immaculate Conception grade school and Lourdes High School in Chicago. Beloved wife to late Rudolph Cepuran for 56 years.Loving daughter of the late Chester and Theresa (nee Lesniewski) Kobza. Devoted Mother to Carl (Marilyn) Cepuran, Joyce Cepuran, and Cheryl (Andrew) Weisberg. Loving Grandma to Eric (Leah) Cepuran, Gordon (Samantha) Cepuran, Ethan Cepuran, and Alex Weisberg.Loving Great-Grandma to Eliza, Leif, Geo, Jase and Billie. Loving sister to late Tess (late Frank) Kaciulis, late Rev. John Kobza, MIC, and late Loretta (late Ken) Ochman. Fond aunt, great aunt and cousin to her beloved extended family. Alice took pride in her work as a secretary with her lightning fast, precise typing and dictation skills developed at business college and applied starting with the Illinois Central Railroad downtown and later for the Centel Corporation, the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks, and as a freelance medical transcriptionist. Alice was known for her beautiful, welcoming and frequent smile and enjoyed meeting and connecting with people, in person, on the phone, or in a written note. She took great pride and joy in being a mom and then a grandma and great grandma, with her gentle, but active and adventurous spirit a great fit for those roles. When she “retired” from work she dove headfirst investing her love and time into her grandkids, enriching their lives. Later on, even the obstacles of Alzheimer’s could not dim the joy and love radiating from her face, heart and hands for her grand and great-grand children. She enjoyed travel, driving and sports, especially bowling, baseball, the Olympics, and later golf. She liked to walk and swim to stay fit and connect with nature. Underneath her kind and hospitable demeanor was a tough and resilient nature and will to compete. She liked to attend and volunteer at church. She treasured the friendships in her ladies social club group. She loved doing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and playing card and board games to keep her mind sharp, especially pinochle with her husband Rudy and cousin Rita. She had a big soft spot in heart for animals, especially dogs. She was a worrier, she was a believer and person of faith, and she prayed often. She had a beautiful soul and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to either the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org, or, the Marian Fathers at marian.org. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 12 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the River Woods Funeral Chapel, 205 S. River Road, Des Plaines, IL, with a service immediately following at 11:00am.
