Maria Hilda Saboya-Quispe

Maria Hilda Saboya-Quispe, 94 years old of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 11th, 2025. Maria was born on July 21st, 1930 to Leocadio Saboya Pisco & Ana Maria Dahua Munoz, she was one of 14 children born in Iquitos, Peru. She started working in a sewing factory as a seamstress, a skill turned into a profession that she loved since she was a little girl. She met and later married her soulmate, Benjamin Quispe of Lima, Peru, they went on to have 3 children. In 1964 her husband purchased a plot of land and built her dream home with his bare hands which included an enclosed garden, a perfect place to raise their young family. Their marriage was pure, playful and strong. She thrived in her working years and was dedicated to her family but most of all, her children. As her children grew into adults and their families started growing roots in the U.S. it was time for a move. So in August 1990, they moved to Chicago. She started working in the Reynolds factory with her husband shortly after. They lived in Roger’s park with their sons and that was, home. Then in 1995 she was in an accident which caused her limited mobility in both legs. Her determination was so strong that after a few years of hard work she regained the strength to walk again. She spent her time doing crosswords, cooking, sewing, traveling back and forth from Peru, shopping the Sunday ad papers for new clothing styles, she loved to garden and tending to her home, going to the lake with her sons and feeding the birds. At the age of 80 she took her citizenship test and passed, her accomplishment was felt by the entire family. This was the same year she would become a widow. She was devastated and her world was shattered then only 18 days later, her first great grandchild was born, Jordan, and her smiles came back. Her laughter was contagious and her jokes were perfect. She picked play fights with her kids and loved to make her family laugh. Inevitably the Alzheimer's progressed and we held on to as many moments of her remembering us as possible. If love alone could have cured her, she would still be here but we know she is finally at peace and reunited with her best friend. She is survived by her children, Jose T. Quispe-Saboya, Francisco B. Quispe-Saboya and Anna Quispe-Saboya. Her grandchildren, Jose B. Quispe, Kimberly A. Forrer and great grandchildren, Jordan G. Rodriguez , Eden G. Forrer and Charlotte G. Forrer. Our family would like to give a very special and heart-felt thank you to her son and caregiver, Jose. From the bottom of our hearts, we love you and thank you for everything for did for her. Visitation will be held Wednesday July 16th, 2025 from 09:00am- 11:00am at River Woods Funeral Chapels 205 S River Rd.
